Trouble in Nepal

I have a soft spot for Nepal - it was the first country I really toured. Things seemed so peaceful when I was there in November 1996. There was no signs of disturbances. The people I talked to had genuine high regards for the royal family and typically disliked the "Red China" due to the Tibet conflicts.

Later in 2001 I read about the palace bloodshed where the prince was accused of murdering his parents. That was the first Nepal shocker since my trip, and I couldn't believe such political turmoil was possible in such a peaceful land.

And now we have this blockade of Kathmandu. I guess there is no place on Earth that is truly in political harmony.
